To be continued ...
Dear Readers,
Since its inception the aim of poetry on the road has been liberate verse and poetry from the confines of their dusty volumes and bring international authors to the banks of the Weser River. In the course of its ten-year-history, the festival has more than fulfilled this goal. poetry on the road has become an integral element of Bremen's cultural landscape. The festival showcases contemporary authors from around the globe and features a variety of forms of expression, ranging from traditional readings to experimental performances and interdisciplinary happenings - at this festival literature really is on the move or, to be more precise, on the road.
Over the last ten years the festival has established itself as a cultural landmark in Europe. What I particularly appreciate about poetry on the road is the fact that its international character is so perfectly suited to the cosmopolitan spirit of our Hanseatic city. There are few cultural events where audiences have the opportunity to enjoy such a broad range of styles and forms of presentation at such close proximity.
I would like to offer my warmest thanks to all those who have contributed to the festival since its very beginning. I am delighted to convey my warmest congratulations to you on your 10th anniversary. I wish the festival's organisers a successful poetry on the road and hope that visitors to the festival will find this year's programme stimulating and inspiring. To put it in a nutshell: may you all enjoy the poetic experience of this very special literary festival.

Yours sincerely,
Lord Mayor of Bremen Jens Böhrnsen,
President of the Senate and Senator for Culture.
